Grandma and Grandad
Go For a Walk
I drew inspiration for this series from pictures I drew when I was little, many of them featuring unflattering portaits of family members. With their crude lines and unintentional assymetry, I was struck by how much more expressive many of these early drawings were than my current attempts at character design. I enjoyed playing with the contrast between the childlike forms and an adult approach to rendering them, complete with shadows and texture.
The three images follow "Grandma and Grandad" on a stroll through their bustling town. The series was displayed in the Tang Teaching Museum in Saratoga Springs as part of the 2015 Skidmore senior thesis exhibition.
